INVITATION TO JOIN THE SAVE THE WILDCOAST
CAMPAIGN
The South African Pondoland Wild coast is under
threat from an extension to the multilane N2 highway, and proposals for open
cast dune mining by an Australian mining company.
The Save the Wild coast Campaign (SWC) is a
loose coalition of organisations and individuals who are concerned about these
developments and hope to press for ecologically sensitive economic solutions
for the Wild coast region.
If you would like to support the campaign, join
the mailing list, or learn more about the campaign, please send an email
address to gpayn@mweb.co.za .
By joining the mailing list you will receive
regular updates about developments, and how you can assist (if you wish to do
so).
- The SWC supports any initiatives to develop
environmentally sustainable, community based, environmentally sound economic
activities in the region.
- The SWC supports the rerouting of the N2 away
from the sensitive ‘Greenfield’s’ section of the coastline that lies between
Port St Johns and Port Edward, to a less ecologically sensitive route.
- The SWC is opposed to any open cast mining
proposals or other environmentally unsustainable economic activities along the Wild
coast.
-The SWC calls for the declaration of the
promised
- SWC calls for a moratorium on any decisions
about the proposed mining, the N2 toll extension and other environmentally
damaging projects along the Wild Coast region until all possible alternatives are
thoroughly investigated, and that any decision making processes take into
account the findings of the Wild Coast Conservation and Sustainable Development
Project.
